Head for the Hills

Meta-fictional sea shanties. Pop-infused newgrass murder ballads and urbane lyricism. Twang and punch. Head for the Hills' fourth record, Blue Ruin, fuses bluegrass, jazz, hip-hop and indie rock into songs inspired by love and misery and comic books. Featuring twelve new original songs marked by moving narratives and stellar musicianship, Blue Ruin showcases the quartet's contemporary take on acoustic music; embracing the bluegrass pedigree while looking forward. Recorded and mixed in Fort Collins, Colorado at Swingfingers Studios with ace engineer and banjoist Aaron Youngberg (Martha Scanlan, Cahalen Morrison and Eli West), Blue Ruin features contributions from Andy Hall (The Infamous Stringdusters), James Thomas, Gabe Mervine (The Motet), and more. Renowned screen print artist Timothy Doyle (Muse, The Black Keys, Lucas Films, NASA) created the stunning cover art and Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer David Glasser rounds out the production team. This is Head for the Hills at their most artistically fulfilled:self-produced and in top form. Blue Ruin is more than just a "bluegrass" record-it's a Head for the Hills record.

Poco

The legendary pioneers of country rock have just launched a new CD, "All Fired Up," featuring their trademark blazing instrumentals and soaring harmonies. The band will "fire up" da Vinci Days with new music from this long awaited CD as well as the mega-hits that made them famous, such as Crazy Love, Heart of the Night, and Good Feelin' to Know.

Poco was formed in 1968 with some of the former members of Buffalo Springfield. Their innovative, cross genre sound has withstood the test of time. The band's dedicated, mixed age fan base will tell you that Poco's music is as relevant today it was back in the day. It is very exciting to have this da Vinci Days appearance in Corvallis included on Poco's "All Fired Up" tour.

The Crazy 8's

They were probably the most popular college band in the Northwest in the 1980's. They gained national attention after Rolling Stone magazine referred to them as one of "nine bands to watch," chosen by the nation's top radio programmers of that time. They were popular openers for bands such as English Beat, Romeo Void, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Violent Femmes. But to those who lived in Corvallis in the early 80's, the Crazy 8's were "OUR band." They rocked the frat houses and parties of Corvallis with a cult following that grew far beyond our little town. Now they are bringing their rock/new wave/ska sound back home for da Vinci Days' 25th anniversary, and they are just as crazy as ever! This will not be just another Sunday. It's time to get crazy!! Bring your kids and turn on a whole new generation to the Crazy 8's!

Carolyn Wonderland

A musical force equipped with the soulful vocals of Janis Joplin and the guitar slinging skills of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carolyn Wonderland reaches into the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. She hits the stage with unmatched presence, a true legend in her time. In addition to playing a multitude of instruments including trumpet, accordion, mandolin, lap steel guitar, and piano, Wonderland has a unique ability to whistle on key - a vocal art seldom invoked in modern music, yet among the most spectacular talents of the human voice. From classic blues licks to gospel crooning to her famous whistling, to peace anthems, Wonderland pulls out all the stops to give music fans all they can handle.
