Karina Gazizova
On September 8, 1941, the invading Nazi army began a siege of
the city of Leningrad that would last for 900 days. Karina
Gazizova's profoundly moving film follows a Russian family as their
struggle to hold on to their identity as a family soon turns into a
struggle to merely survive. Intensely felt and personal, the film
is a powerful reminder that the statistical body count that war
leaves behind barely even begins to tell the whole story.
Intense subject matter.
