The Test
Gary Strieker
Kenya has one of the highest HIV infection rates in sub-Saharan
Africa, yet testing rates are less than 10%. Almost more harmful
than the disease itself is a cultural stigma that makes addressing
the issue nearly taboo. How can you solve a problem if you are
forbidden to talk about it? THE TEST follows a medical team who in
2008 launched an all-out medical assault on HIV in Kenya's Lurambi
District - an assault that included not only education programs,
stigma reduction, and testing and treatment, but a broader approach
to other healthcare needs, including water filtration kits and
mosquito netting. Well-made and informative, THE TEST is an
inspirational reminder that the world is often only what we allow
it to be and what we resolve to make it.
Shows with Mad as Hell Doctors Road Trip 2009 at Darkside
